Frankly speaking - My Substack Journey 👩💻✍️
When I was new to substack I was totally unaware about what substack is about.Today I understand the nuances of this platform to some extent. This made me pen a few lines about my journey in substack
When I joined substack, I was glad that I had found a platform where I could publish my blogs. I wasn’t aware of Like, Comment, and Subscribe buttons. Initially I was sceptical even to open a subscriber chat section.
I published my first article without pressing any subscriber, share and send message button. When I published my first article I got a message saying I haven’t pressed the subscriber button. I ignored that message and went on to publish. LOL! 😂. And after few days I opened to see there were many views but nothing more . I couldn’t understand the logic behind that. I also had received few messages and I wasn’t sure if I should reply.
The funniest part was the Notes section. I used to post in notes . The next day I used to delete as there were no views. Again I used to post a fresh note. It took some time for me to know the importance of posting notes which is equally important like subscriber buttons.
After I had joined, within few days there were few who had subscribed for my substack. I wasn’t aware that it had to be reverted back to the subscribers who had subscribed to my substack link. One fine day , I got a message from a writer saying ,” Can you kindly revert the Subb to my link?. I have subbed to your substack.”. Like a hammer on the head, only then I realised what it is to subscribe a substack.
Slowly I understood what it is to post notes , reply for the messages, nominate etc etc. This is indeed a journey of words for me where I explored not only writing but also how to slowly start surviving in this platform . Even now, I am not a pro at , but, I do understand the knickknacks of the buttons, recommendations which are commonly used in this platform.
When I look back at those funny instances, I realise how my ignorance had taken the lead in my journey.
Today after learning a little and progressing a few steps up, I got the confidence to write this small poem about my substack journey. This poem doesn’t have any decorative or fancy vocab to go with, but it has simple words which I am comfortable with while writing .
Thanks for all the love and support 🙏🏻.
Today I understand the value of a comment, like and what is to have followers and subscribers. 😂
The one thing which I have observed in substack is people try to be kind to each other. And to express their gratitude with the regular usage of the words “ THANK YOU, BEAUTIFUL , GREAT WRITING, SUPPORT, GROW “, to name a few.
How amazing is this , that , we are all connected by this thread of words and only words. Where the country, time zone age, gender, status, looks, language doesn’t matter. It is just the words which carry on our journey.
Here I go with my poem :
This is my maiden journey.
Not in a bus, train, or plane
but a journey through my words.
The destination is unknown.
The journey begins with the choice of words,
each one a step into the unexplored.
It is not always smooth.
At times, the path leads into a dark cave
wrapped in total silence.
No echoes. No response.
Just me and my thoughts.
And then, suddenly,
the next day unfolds into a bloom of flowers
each flower a “like,”
quiet yet comforting.
The path stretches into a vast green land
a meadow of subscribers
standing like silent trees
who chose to walk along.
Further ahead lies a valley of flowers
these are the comments,
colorful, expressive,
bringing fragrance to the journey.
And at times,
the road turns magical
like walking through Walt Disney World
a world of wonder,
where subscribers feel like characters
cheering, smiling, celebrating.
This journey is uncertain.
It bends, it pauses, it surprises.
But it continues…
And as long as words flow,
the journey lives on.

Yes, Uma… it is a beautiful journey.
One imp lesson for all the geniuses.... it is not necessary to figure everything out before stepping into new territories. True smartness lies in showing up n committing those silly mistakes and learning from them.
The only genius thing in the process is simply this: "just showing up."
And the finest geniuses are the ones who can laugh through it.
Uma, you are a genius.
