Flirt- flirting- flirtatious
We all are flirtatious by nature at some point in our life .. isn’t it? We cannot deny this fact. There are certain emotions which is deep inside our sub conscious mind. It pops up when it has to.
I always had in my mind to write about this topic ‘ Flirting, flirtatious “. Recently I got a chance to read a post by @Nishtha. Her post is the inspiration for me to write this post
I would like to start this newsletter by penning few lines about Ericsson mobile phones.
Ericsson mobile phones were among the most popular during the early years of the mobile phone boom. There were not many brands of mobile phones available in the market those days. Hence, was making hay in the sunshine in those years. Nokia and Ericsson mobiles were totally ruling the roost in the consumer market. There was a time when to own a Ericsson mobile phone was considered to be a status symbol.
This video which I have posted here is an advertisement which is decades old. This video was shot for “ERICSSON” mobile phones. This ad was very popular at that time.
To enjoy reading this post kindly have a glimpse of the video I have posted.
What is flirting??
Flirting. Flirtatious - these are light, exciting emotions that most of us experience at some point in our lives.
Flirting can as simple as a compliment, lingering glances paired with smiles , some light innuendo. Flirting is often driven by emotions and instincts than by logic.
This flirtatious spark exists within all of us. It starts to show once we begin to understand the meaning of social interactions. In school, if a boy or a girl is friendly and comfortable with the opposite sex then they are labelled as “flirtatious”. In truth, this is a very natural expression of human connection.
As we grow older, we begin to enjoy these moments more. The simple reason for this is, we all enjoy short snd small light chats, smiles with someone we are drawn to in a party, room, cafe or even in passing. Those fleeting moments are like the words suggests, just for fleeting minutes or seconds may be. That’s all. And then we are back to our normal form. It doesn’t go beyond that.
Flirting doesn’t mean men are chasing and women desperate for attention. It is just a spontaneous expression of our emotions of appreciation on seeing someone attractive. We may try to impress through the way we speak, our body language or just a warm smile. Flirting is not falling love or getting obsessed with the person we find attractive at that moment. That is an altogether different zone.
The feeling fades off once the person is no longer around. It simply emerges back whenever we see an attractive person. This is the nature of the human mind. Flirtation has no age limit. It is not something we consciously control every time. It emerges back reminding us of our ability to feel, notice even if just for a moment. It will be wrong if I would say that I haven’t experienced such moments in my life.
In this video, which I have shared above, we can see the flirtatious nature within us emerges effortlessly without any intention.
In the video, it shows a gentleman is settling down for a quiet meal in a restaurant. Across from him sits a young graceful woman. For a fleeting seconds their eyes meet. He imagines that she is greeting him with a silent “Hello”. In that moment a wave of joy rises within him. A quiet confidence about his looks and self settles in. In that brief exchange of glances, he experiences a spark of happiness.
Carrying the new found confidence and happiness the gentleman approaches the young woman to greet and extend a conversation.
But before he can say a word, she looks up briefly and says ,” Excuse me, can I place an order?
For a second the gentleman pauses, the smile lingers but slightly frozen and the confidence wavers. Then it dawns on him that he has been mistaken for a waiter.
And to make it more funny the woman is not looking at him at all. She is busy talking in her new model “ERICSSON” latest mobile phone introduced in the market.
At that moment the illusion quietly collapses. A fleeting glance had built a story in his mind, one that softly awakened the flirtatious side inherent in all of us. This flirtatious nature , which is within each and everyone of us, awakens without our knowledge .

Reminded of my boss - a Chief Engineer - in our local council in UK - always busy, running around - with his heavy-brick phone - which once fell ……on his foot and make him squirm!
His comment? “Why can’t they make em the size of a credit card and weighing less than 250 Grams!”
Well it eventually happened- but by then, at 74,he had retired….to a care home. And mobiles didn’t make much sense to him!
I liked the way you described flirting as a natural and fleeting human emotion rather than something negative. The Ericsson ad example made me smile too 😄 Sometimes our minds create tiny stories from just one glance, and that’s such a human thing.
